Cassie

We bought a farm

At the end of a long day, how do you unwind? A Netflix marathon? A trip to the gym? Drinks with friends or family? New Belgium co-worker Cassie may have a drink in hand while relaxing after a hard day, and she’s certainly among family, but it’s not quite what you think.

“Our family includes one guinea pig, three dogs, two cats, eight chickens, two donkeys with one on the way, and two goats.”

In 2016, Cassie and her husband Giles checked off a major bucket list item. They bought a quaint farm: six acres of land, to be exact, nestled up against a hillside along the Pigeon River, about 30 minutes west of Asheville, N.C. To Cassie, it’s a welcomed sanctuary for herself, her husband and her family of animals. While time continues to hurl forward at an increasingly fast pace, technology demands we’re tethered to a device, and our political and cultural trends are simply divisive, the farm brings a sense of tranquility; a way to slow down and think about purpose.
